From creation to academic expansion

URKIM opened in October 2010, in accordance with ministerial order no. 153/MINESU/CABMIN/MML/KOB/2010 of 21 September 2010 authorizing its operation.

    Creation decision

    MEPCO decided to create a university institution in the DRC, in Tshangu district, N’djili commune.

  2. October 2010

    Opening of URKIM

    The university opened for the 2010-2011 academic year with four initial faculties.

  3. May 2011

    Expansion request

    The organizing authority submitted a request to open the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Social, Political and Administrative Sciences.

  4. 2011-2012

    Lingwala campus

    URKIM opened a campus in Lingwala to meet the needs of the populations of Lukunga, Funa and Moamba.

  5. 2012-2013

    Training expansion

    Opening of the Faculty of Medicine and launch of the Faculty of Law at the Lingwala campus.

  6. 2018-2019

    Strengthening Lingwala

    The Lingwala campus opened Medicine as well as Economics and Management Sciences.

  7. 2025-2026

    Health Sciences

    Opening of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the N’djili campus.

Operating structure

Institutional organization

URKIM is based on collegial and hierarchical governance combining decision-making, management and academic steering bodies.

The administration and operation of the university are handled by several institutional bodies responsible for overall governance, daily management and academic organization.

The Administrative General Secretariat, Academic General Secretariat and Budget Administration coordinate attached services: registrar’s office, student welfare, maintenance and network, accounting, research and teaching.

Defines general policy, appoints members of the Management Committee and provides strategic direction. It meets in ordinary session twice a year.
